STS provides a service to measure Haul Truck Wheel Alignment and then provide recommendations for settings. To get the optimum performance out of your OTR Tyres it is important to have the wheel alignment set up correctly . Unwanted tyre slippage through the footprint will cause some accelerated wear on a tyre. It could also induce some separation in the belt pack if the alignment is badly out and the casing is stressed .
Along with Wheel Alignment the Thrust Angle can be also be measured . Typical signs of poor alignment are either Conical Wear or Heel and Toe Wear . Note there are other operational conditions that can also cause these types of wear as well .
Setting up Wheel Alignment :-
Essentially the Ackerman Angle Principle applies to any steered axle vehicle whose front wheel set up changes from a "toe in condition to toe out " during cornering .
The Vehicle OEMS generally specify Toe In/Out Settings and Procedure for any adjustment on each vehicle. Note these specs will differ between Radial and Bias Ply tyres . These specifications may in fact need some tweaking in service depending on the operation .
